SAP MM –Movement Types

Movement Types

Movement types are the core of Inventory Management in SAP. This three digit key controls the movement of the materials in SAP (eg: Goods Receipt, Goods Issue, Stock transfer and Stock maintenance). It is already predefined in SAP, how the financial accounting needs to be posted during any material movement. Apart from this depends on business requirement, new movement types can be created by copying existing movement types. For a better understanding of Movement Type, we should know about stock types. Stock types define the state, usage, and usability of the material.

Different Stock types in SAP are

  1. Unrestricted Stock,
  2. Quality Inspection Stock,
  3. Blocked Stock.

Special Stocks

Special stocks are one, that should be managed separately and it is not belonged to any particular company or being warehoused in a particular location. Special stocks are used along with the above mentioned three stock types.
